MOBO Awards Takes Hiatus

Rhythm City FM | October 1, 2018

The British Music of Black Origin (MOBO) Awards will not be staged this year and will return in 2019.

According to organizers of the popular Brtish awards, the event has been placed on hold until 2019 as they have decided to make changes to revamp the brand.

“We understand the MOBOs will be missed this year but we will return next year, bigger and bolder,” said founder Kanya King during an statement on the show’s official Twitter feed.

The MOBOs, which is essentially the UK’s equivalent to the BET and Soul Train Awards, has grown to become one of Europe’s most influential music award ceremonies since its inception in 1996.

The award show served to highlight the excellence of black musicians and performers across the genres of Hip Hop, Grime, R&B, Soul, Reggae, Jazz, Gospel, and African music.

Several Jamaican entertainers have been recognized by the MOBOs over the years, including Beenie Man, Mr. Vegas, Shaggy, Sean Paul, Wayne Wonder, Sean Kingston, Mavado, Gyptian, Popcaan, and Damian “Junior Gong” Marley.
