Barrington Levy Says Alkaline Should Stop Using Auto-Tune

Rhythm City FM | May 8, 2017

Reggae/dancehall legend Barrington Levy shared his thoughts on the massive success of Alkaline inside the dancehall space.

Levy who is a icon in the genre, has only one advice to give the young dancehall star and that is to stop using auto-tune. In a recent interview with Anthony Miller on ER, Levy says that he is not trying to diminish Alkaline’s career but auto-tune is an issue. “I like his vibes but the auto-tune thing its not really letting me hear what he’s really saying,” he said. “Alkaline i’m not putting down your thing but if you can take down a little off the auto-tune it would be a good look.”

Barrington Levy also called out some dancehall artists who are trying to sound like hip hop artists. Be original is what he is telling some of the upcoming acts. “Now I get to find out that majority of the artists, some of the artists want to sound like the American artists, but no create your sound and pick your sound,” he told Miller.

Barrington Levy rose to dancehall super stardom in the 1980s and 90s and since then he has collaborated with some big name hip hop stars like Shyne, Jadakiss, Busta Rhymes and more.
